Why I Think Allie’s Hair From Off Campus Is About To Become The New Rachel Haircut

I Think Allie’s Hair From Off Campus Is About To Become The New Rachel Haircut

Every now and then a hairstyle comes along that becomes bigger than the character wearing it.

As hairdressers, we all know The Rachel.

Jennifer Aniston’s iconic haircut from Friends became one of the most requested hairstyles of a generation. It wasn’t just a haircut anymore — it became a cultural moment.

And honestly?

I think Allie’s hair from Off Campus could be the next version of that.

When I first started watching the series, I thought Hannah’s hair would be the one everyone would be talking about. As someone who has always loved layers and a bouncy blow wave, her hair immediately caught my attention.

The movement.

The shape.

The bounce.

The soft flick through the ends.

It reminded me of everything I love about a great haircut.

In fact, one of the first hairstyles I ever learnt to perfect was a bouncy blow wave because it was my auntie’s signature style. To this day, it’s still one of my favourite looks to create in salon.

But the more I watched the series, the more I found myself looking at Allie’s hair.

And I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

The Haircut That Doesn’t Fit Into One Category

What I love most about Allie’s hair is that it’s difficult to define.

It’s not a classic curly haircut.

It’s not a traditional layered haircut.

It’s not quite a curtain fringe and it’s not quite a full fringe either.

It sits somewhere in between.

The fringe frames her face perfectly while still feeling soft and effortless. The texture feels natural. The curls aren’t overly polished. Nothing about the haircut looks forced.

And I think that’s exactly why it works.

The haircut feels like it belongs to her.

It has personality.

It has movement.

It has character.

In a world where so much hair can start to look the same, Allie’s hair feels individual.

Hair Is Moving Away From Perfection

One of the biggest shifts I’ve noticed over the last few years is that clients are becoming less interested in perfect hair.

They’re still interested in beautiful hair.

But beautiful looks different now.

Clients want movement.

They want texture.

They want softness.

They want hair that feels effortless.

They want hair that looks like them.

For so long, trends were dominated by sleek, polished styles. While I still love a beautiful blow wave, I love that we’re seeing more people embrace texture, curls, bends, layers, and shape.

Allie’s hair captures that perfectly.

Nothing about it feels overdone.

And that’s exactly what makes it feel so modern.

Why I Think Everyone Will Start Asking For It

I don’t think clients will walk into the salon asking for “Allie’s haircut” tomorrow.

But I do think we’re going to start seeing pieces of it everywhere.

The fringe.

The texture.

The shape.

The movement.

The idea that your haircut should work with your natural texture instead of fighting against it.

We’re already seeing more clients ask for softness around the face rather than structured cuts. More movement through the lengths. More individuality.

The more I think about it, the more I believe Allie’s hair represents exactly where hair is heading.

It’s relaxed.

It’s cool.

It’s effortless.

And most importantly, it’s achievable.

Hannah’s Hair Still Deserves Some Love

Now don’t get me wrong.

I still absolutely love Hannah’s hair.

In many ways, it feels like the modern version of The Rachel.

The layers.

The blow wave.

The volume.

The shape.

It’s one of my favourite haircuts to cut and style because it creates movement while still keeping the hair looking thick and healthy.

At Harpo Hair, we’re still creating those beautiful layered cuts and bouncy blow waves every day, and I don’t see them going anywhere anytime soon.

But if Hannah feels like the evolution of a trend we already know and love, Allie feels like the beginning of something new.

My Prediction For 2026

If I had to make one hair prediction for 2026, it would be this:

We’re going to see more texture.

More movement.

More personality.

More fringes.

More individuality.

And I think Allie’s hair captures all of that perfectly.

Maybe I’m wrong.

But as a hairdresser, I haven’t stopped thinking about that haircut since I watched the show.

And that’s usually a pretty good sign.

Thinking About Changing Your Hair?

Whether you’re inspired by Hannah’s layers and bounce or Allie’s texture and effortless fringe, the best haircut is always one that feels like you.

If you’re thinking about adding more movement, texture, shape, or softness to your hair, we’d love to help create a look that works for your lifestyle, your hair type, and your personality.
